Just got faster…
People visiting a (cached) page of this blog, can experience up to 493% improvement. Only change so far was installing and activating the WP Super Cache plugin. This should enable this blog to get back into the “fast lane” below 1,5 seconds.
This blog is too slow…
Compared to other pages on this server, the time required for database look-ups and the images used, this WordPress blog is respectively slow. The 2.28 seconds required to return the homepage illustrated above is not even a worst case scenario (sometimes it takes more than 4 seconds to load). In the coming weeks we will further look into this and try to improve.
According to Google Webmaster tools there are already some improvements (but these measurements are only estimates with low accuracy because of the limited data points).

Many suggestions are related to reducing the number of php-functions (making the site more static), database look-ups, HTTP & DNS requests and of course cache-ing. As for now it is not possible to isolate all factors, this will only be an experimental journey.

Your facebook changed again
Once more Facebook changed the look and feel of your facebook.com homepage. At first sight, there appears to be more white space, more icons and multiple navigation options, the footer navigation has been removed (this could only have become a standard in case facebook.com would have used it for a couple of more years)

Who sees what…
Google labs introduced a nice, small tool (Browser Size) to indicate how many people can see which part of your website. Apparently a lot of visitors (80%) are ending up with a browser window with a least 1000 x 550 pixels.
ps: Would Google also be measuring our shoe size when visiting google.com?
The "Â" showing up in some of the posts, is not another Antwerp promotion
A database (MySql) update for this blog resulted in special characters like “” showing up in some of the posts. This was caused by a unicode (UTF-8) problem as the content was stored in unicode format in a non-unicode database.
